Höstulven Cup – 9–11 October 2026
On Friday afternoon, we arrived in Ljungskile in slightly chilly sunshine with a light breeze.
Höstulven Cup certainly lived up to its name, with cold temperatures and strong winds.
Saturday – Strong winds and challenging racing
For Saturday, the forecast predicted southwesterly winds of 7 m/s, with gusts of up to 12 m/s, along with
some rain.
There were 10 boats on the starting line, representing five nations: four from Sweden, one from Norway,
three from Denmark, one from Germany and one from Ireland.
At the skippers’ meeting, it was announced that two races would be sailed before the lunch break,
followed by two more in the afternoon.
The first two races were completed in extremely challenging conditions, with gusts of up to 17 m/s
recorded from the committee boat. One boat retired, and a couple of boats suffered damage.
After the first two races, a delicious soup was served. Gunder had arranged for it to be prepared, while
Patrick’s parents took care of serving it.
Afterwards, the decision was made to wait another hour in the hope that the wind would ease during the
afternoon. One more race was then completed, bringing Saturday’s total to three races.
Results after Saturday’s three races
Sunday – Shifting winds and suspense until the very end
A further three races were sailed on Sunday. The wind came from shifting directions and ranged between
2 and 5 m/s. Temperatures were between 5 and 9°C, and the weather brought some rain and fog.
The light and shifting winds made the races challenging and led to changes in the overall standings.
Höstulven Cup concluded after a total of six races.
