Action4Europe has called for help and 3 sets of sails as well as 600 € = 676,15 USD were collected in a first round and sent to Kyiv. Shortly after, they facebook posted the following:
“When we had the idea to start a sailing program for defenders, we couldn’t have imagined how many warm, sincere people from all over the world would support us.
Recently we received a package from Europe – from the Community 2.4mR Action4Europewho saw our posts and decided to help. Just like that. Because they care.
Thank you for your support, trust and kind hearts.
Sailing connects people – and we are delighted to feel this connection despite all the distances.”
In addition, we received the following email from Kateryna:
“Thank you so much! Most of the current expenses are for additional sailing equipment such as ropes, blocks, etc. On one of the boats, we repaired the mast and bought new shrouds.”
At the moment we have two major funding needs for which we continue to raise money:
a new engine for the trainer boat and an additional 2.4mR boat (we dream of 2, but at least one more).The 2.4mR class is becoming increasingly popular among veterans. We currently have 16 students, including several amputees.
One of them lost both legs due to injuries sustained at the front – and under the sails of the 2.4mR he experienced the freedom of movement again.I am incredibly grateful to be part of this project and to experience the joy of the sailors firsthand.
Word of our course has spread among veterans, and we now have a growing waiting list for future participants.”
When I expressed my hope that we would soon see each other at a regatta somewhere in Europe, the response was: “We will definitely meet – we are working on it.”
