Dutch Championship with wind, black wall, pure joy of life

As one of the season highlights, we had long planned to travel to the Dutch championship in Sneek On the one hand, because we have already experienced the area and the competent race management from two “small Sneekweeks” and on the other hand because the World Championship will be held there next year.

And for three days of regattas, we were happy to take on the distance.

It was just as beautiful as expected. Lots of friendly sailors and helpers, lots of pleasant conversations, and challenging sailing with quite a bit of wind and impressive rain showers.

That's precisely why we'll remember our first day. A black wall like that is a natural spectacle.

On the second day, the sails had to be furled quite flat again. Not all registered sailors rose to the challenge. But the race committee was keeping an eye on the current weather conditions. We were sent ashore twice to prevent major damage.

On land there was refreshment and plenty of heroic stories.

On the last day, moderate winds were finally promised, and the promise was more or less kept.

Martin (GER 114). With impressive consistency and followed by an ever stronger Frank (NED 1039). Bruce (GBR 842).

The club already felt that this regatta was also a test for the 2026 World Championship. The Stade fleet (Sabine, Tim, and I) believes this test was a complete success.

Thank you again to everyone involved.

A nice side note was the ferryman who, out of pure joy of life and pride in the maneuverability of his high-tech vehicle, conjured up a pirouette for us on the Prinses Margriet Canal.

Ferry to the island with a skilful skipper

These Dutch people are simply nice.
