They are sailing towards the next intermediate destination, the remaining four teams of the Ocean Race. At the end of Leg 3 in Itajaí, Brazil, however, a small sensation awaits the sailing world and especially us 2.4mR sailors.
But first things first: After about half of the leg, there was, after all, a slack sail in sight on 18 March.
This led to more intensive communication among each other, which culminated in Damien Seguin's proposal to organise an even closer race one day, but then in the 2.4mR. Enthusiastically, the skippers from Holcim, Biotherm, Malizia and 11th Hour Racing agreed to organise a regatta in our boat class in addition to the official harbour race, in order to offer the spectators in the harbour some up-close fun, while at the same time improving their tactical skills in the immediate fight against each other. The Guyot - environnement team, already in Itajaí, was also happy to accept.
Paul Meilhat from Biotherm thinks he has excellent chances, as he is coached by seinem team member Damien Seguin, world champion and Paralympian youger in 2.4mR.
Robert Stanjek, co-skipper of Guyot - environnement, has asked his old sailing friend Heiko Kröger for help. By all accounts, the answer was "no" and "yes". "No" as president of the International 2.4mR Class Association, because he has to maintain neutrality across nations. "Yes" as a multiple 2.4mR World Champion from Germany.
The German Boris Herrmann, skipper of Malizia, now has to look elsewher. He has made an enquiry to the German 2.4mR Class Association. From well-informed circles, the matter is treated with the highest priority, but secretly, so as not to get too much press coverage.
The other skippers and crews are also on the lookout, such as Megan Pescoe from Great Britain or Dee Smith from the United States.
As 2.4mR sailors, we are very excited about this great Ocean Race Inshore. The best boats from Europe have already arrived in Itajaí.
